How the calculation works

Count a cash drawer by denomination rather than adding individual notes and coins one at a time. This calculator multiplies each euro denomination by its quantity, then shows both the combined monetary value and the number of physical pieces counted.

Total cash = sum(denomination in cents × whole-number count) / 100.
  1. Separate the cash by value

Group notes and coins by denomination before counting. Enter coin values in euros, so a fifty-cent coin is 0.50 rather than 50.

  2. Record quantities consistently

Use the number of pieces, not each group's monetary subtotal, in the second column. Only the standard euro denominations listed beside the input are accepted.

  3. Reconcile subtotals and pieces

The calculator multiplies denomination values in cents by their counts and adds those integer-cent subtotals. Check the displayed rows and piece count against the physical groups before accepting the total.

Worked example: Drawer

Sample inputs demonstrate the method. They are not a forecast or product offer.

The first example contains two €50 notes, three €20 notes, five €2 coins and four €0.50 coins. Their values are €100, €60, €10 and €2, totalling €172. The quantities add to 14 pieces.

Understanding your result

The cash total is the face value of the entered denominations. It does not authenticate banknotes, value collectible coins or establish whether the cash matches a business's recorded receipts.

The notes-and-coins count provides a separate quantity check. Two drawers can have the same monetary total but very different numbers of pieces, so both measures can help identify a misplaced count.

Questions you might have

Can I paste repeated denomination rows?

Combine them first. Duplicate rows are rejected to help prevent counting the same cash twice.

Choosing the right inputs

Denominations and counts
Enter one row per denomination in the form value, count, such as 20,3 for three €20 notes. Use whole non-negative counts and combine repeated denominations into one row; the tool rejects duplicates to help avoid counting the same cash twice.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Do not enter 50 for a fifty-cent coin; that denotes a €50 note.
  • Do not enter the subtotal as the count or paste repeated rows for the same denomination.
  • Do not mix other currencies or non-standard collectible values into the euro count.

Assumptions to check

  • Only standard euro cash denominations are accepted; collectible face values are excluded.
